We grieve the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and countless other black victims before them. The cumulative weight of these events rests heavily on us, our community, and our country. Marquette unequivocally stands against any form of racism, injustice, or discrimination. We do not see this as a political issue, but a moral one.
We are committed to examining our own attitudes and behaviors, recognizing our own biases and supporting the ongoing understanding and dismantling of systematic racism and oppression. To that end, we are making a donation to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund: For the past 75 years, the LDF has provided legal services and public education for the most vulnerable in our country. You can learn more at www.naacpldf.org.
To support local efforts and aid in the rebuilding that will heal us as a community, we are also donating to the Minneapolis Foundation which directs all donations to support local businesses impacted by the recent protests. Please go to www.minneapolisfoundation.org for more information.
It will take all of us to achieve a world where racism and oppression are crowded out by diversity, inclusion, and equality. We are committed to doing our part.
